The Joint Commission approved new requirements for the Infection Prevention and Control chapter for critical access hospitals and programs that will go live on 7/1/2024 targeted towards strengthening preparedness of healthcare facilities to identify and manage patients with suspected or confirmed high consequence infectious diseases (HCIDs). In this presentation we will discuss the new Standard IC.07.01.01 and two new elements of performance targeted to enhance hospitals’ preparedness for HCIDs or special pathogens through a standardized approach. We will also offer tools and resources created by the Region 1 Emerging Special Pathogens Treatment Center to assist with implementation of the new standard and ensure hands-on training time with personal protective equipment.

Resuscitation Academy
1:00 - 5:00pm Cost: $35 Includes lunch before the workshop for participants. Lunch is served at 12:00pm. |
The Vermont Resuscitation Academy's mission is to significantly improve survival rates from out-of-hospital cardiac arrests, offering a targeted workshop that arms EMS professionals with the critical skills and knowledge needed to make a lifesaving difference. Centered around the science of High-Performance CPR (HP-CPR), the workshop delves into the key metrics that define successful resuscitation efforts. A significant focus of our program is on hands-on practice using high-fidelity manikins, allowing attendees to experience and apply HP-CPR techniques in realistic scenarios. This practical approach ensures that participants not only understand the theory behind HP-CPR but also gain the confidence to perform these techniques effectively during actual resuscitation calls. Through mastering the intricacies of teamwork, precision, and decision-making required in HP-CPR, the Vermont Resuscitation Academy equips emergency responders with the tools to enhance survival chances for those experiencing cardiac arrests outside the hospital, reinforcing their crucial role in the community's chain of survival.
